Football. Robin Mounsey and Colm Rice, two hurlers from the local club who play football with Corofin helped the Corofin team overcome Kildimo-Pallaskenry, Limerick, in the quarter-final of the Munster Intermediate Club Championship in Corofin on Sunday. Conall o'Hanifein from Ruan, who plays football with Eire Og, was active on the team on Sunday when they beat Tipperary side Loughmore-Castleiney. Both these teams now go on to the semi-finals, Corofin playing Newmarket and Eire Og coming up against St Finbarr's Tidy Village and Graveyard. The committee of the Tidy Village and graveyard is holding a 'Cash for Clobber' collection on Friday, December 17 next. They are asking people to bring bags of clothes, shoes, belts, bags, sheets, duvet covers, pillow covers, towels, curtains to Ruan Community Centre any weekday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and appreciate the support of the community for this fundraiser. Clare Hunt. The Clare Hunt has had two outings in the parish in the past weeks. On Saturday, November 28, nearly sixty children participated in a hunt from Barry's Equestrian Centre and on Sunday, November 29, over sixty horses and their riders took a ride over the Ruan area, finishing up with refreshments in Morty Kellys. Annual Imeall Boirne Calendars. These calendars will be available from all the churches in the Imeall Boirne area from Sunday, December 12. |

Successful Fundraiser for Complex. Choosing to run a Tractor Run on the last Sunday in November could have been hampered by typical November weather, however, the conditions on Sunday could not have been better for the venture. There was a great turn out of tractors, modern and vintage, vintage cars, motorbikes, trucks, and even a bus which started off from Barry's Equestrian Centre in Toonagh, took in Dysart, Killeen, Cooga and Ruan before ending back in Toonagh. There were refreshments galore in the hall after the event and a raffle. The fundraiser took in almost E2,900 and the organisers are very appreciative of all the support they received from the community, those who took part in the run, donated prizes for the raffle, provided signs, directed traffic, Barrys Equestrian Centre for the use of their outdoor area, those who prepared the hall and those who cleaned up afterwards. It was a brilliant community effort and the organisers are looking forward to the day when the hall will be up and running for use by the various groups who have used it in the past, when the Covid pandemic is under control. Called up to Clare Seniors. Robin Mounsey from Ballygriffey, a member of Ruan GAA Club, has been added to the Clare Senior Hurling team for the 2022 season, having been called up by Manager, Brian Lohan. Robin started playing hurling at the age of six years in Ruan National School, under the guidance of Cyril Lyons, who has been a great influence over the years for Robin. He played up through the age groups with Ruan and Corofin/Ruan. Robin began his journey with Clare from the age of 13, playing with the under 14 development team and has since represented Clare at underage hurling right up to the 21s team. He captained the Corofin/Ruan winning minor team in a brilliant performance in Cusack Park where they won their first ever minor title as an amalgamation team. Throughout his hurling career, to date, Robin has been a very dedicated and popular young man and a great role model for young people coming up through the various categories in hurling within the club, and it is hoped he will have a fruitful and happy time playing with Clare. Advent Rememberance Tree. An Advent tree has been placed in both churches in the parish where people may remember loved ones who - for one reason or another - through illness, suffering from an addiction, are living away from home, are in a hospital or a nursing home, will not be 'with us' for Christmas. During the season of Advent where we look forward to the birth of Jesus, people may take a card from the basket, write the name of the person on it and hang it from the tree. There are also cards with the gifts of the Holy Spirit written on them, and should anyone wish to pray for this gift for themselves, they can also hang this on the tree. These cards will form part of the procession at the Christmas Eve mass and the people will be remembered in all the masses which will be celebrated over the Christmas seaso History Booklet. The Local History Group has completed the booklet on The Taking of the RIC Barracks in Ruan on October 18, 1920 and it is now at the printing stage. The booklet covers The Barracks, Cumann na mBan volunteers from the area,, photos from the event marking the 100th anniversary on October 18, 2020, lists of volunteers from the parish and more. The book may be pre-ordered on 0861730756, evenings only Monday to Friday. 100 copies are being printed, so numbers are limited. |
