Camogie News:  Ruan u15 Camogie team went to Ballyea on Wednesday evening for a blitz which also included Whitegate. A slow start in the first match meant Ruan were chasing the game. The Ruan girls were back in contention until a late goal for Ballyea closed it out 4:2 to 2:3. The match was played at a very high standard with fabulous skills on show. The second game against Whitegate was a different affair with Ruan on the up from the start taking a commanding lead with some superb score taking. Ruan never looked in any danger in what was a more physically challenging match winning 7.7 to 1:0.

Well done to all the girls, on another excellent performance. Fantastic effort, skills and determination was shown by the girls. Ruan abú.

RUAN GAA:

Ruan Minor Club - Kellogs Cúl CampThere was a great turnout out of hurling and camogie players at the Kellogs Cúl Camp in Ruan GAA field. There were 114 children (68 boys and 48 girls) in attendance. Special Guest was Clare Goalkeeper Andrew Fahy. Andrew was delighted to see the field full of players hurling when he entered the Ruan GAA pitch last Friday. He said that there was great spirit amongst the children in Ruan GAA & Camogie.

All children will get the chance to attend another summer camp from Aug 22-25 run by Ruan GAA & Camogie clubs. This will be the second year of this camp with over 100 children attending last year.

Social Justice Ireland have released the following interesting statistics. Since the onset of the recession the number of people in poverty in Ireland has increased by more than 100,000.   Today there are more than 750,000 people living in poverty in Ireland.  More than 57 per cent of those in poverty are people who are retired, students, people in caring roles, people who are ill or people with a disability. If Government wishes to address and close this divide future policy must prioritise those at the bottom of the income distribution.  These policies must be designed to address the wide variety of households and adults in poverty. We, as Church have a voice in this. Killaloe Diocese JPIC committee encourages you to write to your local politician and local representatives to ensure they are working hard to alleviate this issue.

Race Nite for Toonagh School:  The Board of Management & Parents Association of Toonagh School are embarking on a project to convert the grass playing field at the rear of the school, which is waterlogged for many months of the year,  to an 'all weather facility' which will enable the children to take part in physical activities throughout the school year.
Representatives will call to businesses in the local and surrounding areas over the next few weeks, looking for their support for a fundraising Race Nite to be held in Hotel Woodstock on July 8th next. While acknowledging that these are challenging times for people running a business, nevertheless, it is hoped that there will be a good response for the venture, which will ensure that the children attending Toonagh School now, and into the future, will get full use of all the facilities the school has to offer, indoor and outdoor. Parents have cards, should anyone wish to buy a horse.

Thought for the week

There's a Reason For every pain that we must bear,

For every burden, every care -

There's a reason.

For every grief that bows the knee,

For every teardrop that is shed -

There's a reason.

For every hurt, for every plight,

For every lonely, pain-racked night -

There's a reason.

But if we trust God as we should,

All this must work out for our good.

He knows the reason.
