Advent Trees. Over the season of Advent, in anticipation of the celebration of the Birth of Jesus, and Advent tree has been placed on the Altars of St. Tola’s Church, Dysart and St. Mary’s Church, Ruan where people may take a card from the basket underneath the tree, write the name of a loved one who will not be ‘with us’ this Christmas either because they have died, suffer from an addiction, are living away from home or are in hospital or nursing home. They then hang the card on the tree and, on Christmas Eve these cards will form part of the Offertory procession. These people will be remembered in all the masses which will be celebrated in both churches. The death has occurred of Sr. Flannan (Margaret) McGuane, in Chicago. Margaret , formerly of Moycullen, Dysart, left her home in Ireland in 1950, bound for the U.S.A. She entered the Dominican Congregation in 1957 and she managed the Mother House kitchen and bakery from 1960 to 2003. One of her specialities was baking Mound Cinnamon bread which was to become a favourite of the Sisters, their guests and people all around the world. She often oversaw the catering for up to 300 to 400 people, with great efficiency. She loved to come home to Dysart on holiday to her family, while she was able to travel. Margaret’s wake and funeral mass were streamed to her family back here in Ireland. She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Brady and Monica McGuane in Chicago, Eileen O’Donoghue, Bray and brother, Joe, in Scoole, nieces, nephews, extended family and her Sisters in the Dominican Congregation. The death has also taken place of Tom Crowe, Swindon, England and formerly of Drummina, Dysart, uncle of Pat Crowe, Drummina. |
