Clare Primary School Handball.
Cathal Noonan (6th class) Toonagh National School was part of the Clare Primary Schools Handball team to win Munster Championship honours on Sunday in Tulla. Following the Clare Primary School Trials, Cathal was selected to represent Clare in Munster. Clare defeated Tipperary, Waterford and Cork in the final to become Munster Champions. Cathal and his team mates will now go on to the All Ireland Representative Tournament in Cavan in the new year.

Confirmation Enrolment.
A Confirmation enrolment ceremony, for all schools in the Imeall Boirne Parishes, will be held in St. Mary’s Church, Ruan, on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7.30. One of the ways  the children are introduced to their communities, during the year leading up to their Confirmation, is taking part in reading the prayers of the faithful in their respective parishes, and this is very much appreciated by the congregations in the various churches.

Christmas Fair.
Ruan Tidy Village and Graveyard Committee will hold its Christmas Fair on Sun. Dec. 14th in Ruan Community Centre, immediately after 8pm mass.
A lot of work has been carried out in Ruan Village, and this is reflected in the National Tidy Town’s Competition, where, year on year, the scores have increased. The upkeep of the graveyards in the parish is a credit to the local Rural Resource Group and volunteers. Proceeds from the Christmas Fair help offset the considerable costs incurred - public liability insurance, replacing and repairing equipment, petrol, diesel, oil, bedding plants, flowers - every year.
Items for the fair and auction - timber, turf, hay, clothing, home baking, brick a brac, books - may be left in to the Community Centre during the daytime up to Saturday and the committee appreciates the support of the community for their fundraiser.

Handball.
This year Toonagh is well represented in the Clare Leagues with three adult teams in action. With just over half of the matches already completed it is the Division 3A team that look in the best position to reach the semi-finals while the Division 3B team will need some good performances in the next few matches in order to secure a semi-final place. Both the 3A and 3B team are due to play each other in the next round in what is sure to be a highly entertaining match. At the moment the Division 2 team lies
just outside the top four so they will be hoping for some strong performances to secure a semi-final spot.
This Friday Toonagh’s Alan Cummins will play Kilkishen’s Aidan Moroney in the County Final of the Masters B Championship in Newmarket at 8pm. Cathal Noonan (U12) and Christian Cummins (U14) will play the in Juvenile A Championship quarter-finals on Saturday in Toonagh and Newmarket venues respectively with both games scheduled for an 11.30 start.

Christmas Party.
On Sunday last, the Senior Citizens of the parish were treated to their annual Christmas party in Morty Kelly’s Bar, Ruan. They were served a festive dinner provided by The Sherwood, and afterwards enjoyed music, singing and dancing provided by Frank Custy, Joe Quinn and friends, Liam Jones and a group of young people under the guidance of Mary Wynne and Ellen Jones.
Mary O’Donnell, on behalf of the Senior Citizens Committee accepted a cheque from P.J. McNulty, of the Ruan Gymkhana Group and this money, as well as the money raised from the church gate collection, goes to the annual holiday in Lahinch and the Christmas party.
