Kitchen Sessions Variety Concert.
 
The very enjoyable Kitchen Sessions held in Toonagh Hall on Friday nights will come to an end for the summer with a Variety Concert in Toonagh Hall on this Fri night 22nd June, from 7.00 to 9.00p.m.  It will feature singers, dancers and musicians who've been taking part in the Sessions and some of whom have enjoyed success at the Fleadh in Miltown Malbay last weekend.   Monies raised on the night from the door and raffle will go towards buying a photocopying machine for Toonagh N.S. A good night's entertainment is guaranteed.

Recent Death.
 
The death has taken place in the Mid Western Hospital, Ennis, of  Mrs. Nora Hayes, nee Dooherty,  of Kilkee East, Ruan.  A native of Kilfenora, Nora came to Ruan when she married Mortimer Hayes, who predeceased her twenty one years ago.  In recent times she was looked after at home by her family, until she was admitted to hospital.   Her remains were removed from Daly's Funeral Home to St. Mary's Church, Ruan and following requiem Mass, she was laid to rest in the adjoining graveyard.  She is survived by her son, Gerard, daughter, Mary, her brother and extended family.

Off to Dublin Show.
 
Tommy O'Gorman, from Dysart, won the Breeder's Champion Class at the Galway Show on Sun. last.   He has now qualified for the Dublin Horse Show, for the second time in two years, with his mare, Dysart Lily, and her foal.
 
 
Community Games Athletic Finals.
 
Michelle Power, Saoirse Barry, Donal O'hAinifein, Neasa Ni Ainifein, Ronan Corey, Daire Corey, Aoife Corey, Joshua Corey, Patrick Healy and Shane Punch all represent the parish in the county finals which will be held in Lees Road on this Sun. 24th June at 12.30p.m.
                                                                                                
Hurling.
 
Two players with the local Club lined out in Thurles on Sun last with the Clare Intermediate team which overcame Waterford - Killian Ryan was corner back and Aidan Lynch came on as a sub.   Colin Haugh played centre field with the primary school "Go Games" team which played during half time in the senior game.
Ruan Intermediate hurlers have gained promotion to Division 1B of the Clare Cup for next year.  They have also qualified for this year's Division 2 Final.  The 1st round of this year's Intermediate Championship will be held in Shannon this Sat. 23rd against Bodyke. 
 
Fleadh in Miltown.
 
A number of local traditional musicians, singers and dancers took part in the Fleadh Cheoil competitions in Miltown Malbay over the weekend.   Sarah Cantillon from Dysart came 1st in Concertina u12;  Caimin Whelan came 1st in Mandolin, u12 and 2nd in Banjo u 12;  Lily O'Connor came 1st in Harp u12 and her sister, Eve, came 1st in harp u;.  Lisa Whelan came 2nd in u12 Lilting and 3rd in u12 Singing and she and her sister, Zoe were in Damian O'Reilly's Group which won u12, Zoe also played in Damian O'Reilly's band which came 1st, while their mother, Denise, came 3rd in Senior Sean Nos Dancing;  Daire Shannon and Conor O'Loughlin came 2nd in u15 duets;  Ross O'Donovan and Barry Heagney came 3rd in u15 duet;  Ross O'Donovan, Sean Doherty and Barry Heagney came 2nd in u15 trio;  Burren Band came 3rd in u12, 1st in u15 and 3rd in u18;  Burren Grupa Ceoil came 2nd in u12, u15 and u18.  Well done to all who took part in the competitions - traditional music, singing and dancing is alive and well in County Clare.
