Joe is Mayor of Clare.

Local man, Joe Arkins, is the newly elected Mayor of Clare.   The Fine Gael Councillor took over the Chain of Office from Cllr. Pat Daly at Aras Contae an Chlair on Fri. night last.  This is the first time anyone from the Parish has reached this position and is a fitting reward for Joe, who has been a very vocal, committed and active member of Clare County Council since 1999.
Joe, his wife, Concepta, daughter, Eimear and son, Conor have been great community supporters during their time in Ruan, being involved in local drama, concerts and Joe is currently treasurer of the local Tidy Towns Committee.   He is also a member of Ceoltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, and following his installation as Mayor, he was joined by family, friends and supporters at Cois na hAbhna, where they enjoyed an evening of music, singing and refreshments.

Run for Reading.

There was a tremendous sense of community spirit and fun in Ruan on Thursday evening last, when 309 participants took to the roads around the village, raising €3,301 which will go towards new reading programmes in the school.
Cyril Lyons, school Principal, sends a "Mile Buiochas" to all to supported the Run, whether taking part, stewarding or providing refreshments on the evening.
