Recent Deaths.

Eileen Moroney (nee Roche), Hazelgrove, Ruan,  passed away peacefully at her home on May 2nd on her 91st birthday.

Originally from Lavalla, Ballynacally, Eileen worked as a Psychiatric Nurse in Our Lady's Hospital, Ennis, where she met the love of her life, her late husband, Simon and they came to live in Ruan in 1975. They settled into their community where Eileen, a devout woman, became actively involved in church activities and she was a founding member of Ruan Apostolic Society. She and Simon, who were married for sixty years at the time of his death, enjoyed set dancing and traditional Irish music.

Eileen is remembered with great fondness by patients and colleagues from Our Lady's - she was instrumental in setting up a stimulating programme in the Occupational Therapy Unit in the hospital.

Age held no limits for Eileen, she learned to drive at the age of fifty, and to swim at seventy, and was a familiar figure on her daily walks around Ruan well into her eighties.

Her removal took place from her home to Ruan Church and, following requiem mass, she was laid to rest in the adjoining graveyard. Eileen will be missed by her six daughters, extended family and friends.

The death also occurred of Kitty O'Connell, nee Hogan, of Drumgloon, Barefield and formerly of Ruan, of Maureen Leonard of Dublin, mother of Edel Bluett, Dysart and Philomena Bohan, nee Flanagan, sister of Martin Flanagan, Ballygriffey, Ruan.

Annual Retreat.

Twenty Seven Confirmation Children from Toonagh, Ruan and Crusheen National Schools travelled to Knock with Fr. Pat O'Neill and adult helpers last week, on what has now become, an annual retreat day.

They visited the Basilica which has been newly renovated and the museum and enjoyed their outing.
